Building the Professional Identity Layer for African Creatives

4.2 million Nigerian creatives. A $5.1 billion continental creator economy. And no infrastructure to help any of them present their work professionally. That is what Shyne is fixing.

The Problem

The Talent Exists. The Infrastructure Does Not.

4.2M

Creative professionals in Nigeria alone. Second largest employer in the country, after agriculture.

When a client asks for a portfolio, the average Nigerian creative sends an Instagram link, a WhatsApp gallery, or a scattered Google Drive folder. None of these communicate value. None of them win premium clients. The result is underpricing, invisibility, and lost income for some of the most talented creatives on the continent.

The Issue

No structured way to present work professionally. Creatives rely on social platforms built for discovery, not for client conversion. Instagram was never designed to win a contract.

The Behaviour

Over 12.6 million Nigerians use Instagram. 62% use it to explore creative content. But a social feed is not a professional profile. Creatives are using a visibility tool as a business card.

The Outcome

Missed opportunities. Difficulty justifying premium rates. Inability to apply for institutional gigs or formal creative opportunities. Africa's creative sector is projected to reach $50 billion by 2030 — but only for creatives who can present themselves well enough to capture it.

The Scale

Africa's creator economy is growing at 28.7% annually. The continent will have 20 million creative jobs by 2030. The infrastructure for professional identity does not exist yet. That is the opportunity.

Our Solution

A Professional Portfolio in Under 10 Minutes

Shyne lets any creative answer a few guided questions, upload their work, and get a clean professional portfolio link — no code, no designer, no technical skill required. Mobile first. Built for Africa.

1

Answer guided questions

Simple prompts walk any creative through building their profile — no blank page anxiety, no design decisions.

2

Upload your work

Photos, projects, case studies — whatever the creative has done becomes a clean, structured showcase.

3

Share one clean link

Instead of scattered Instagram posts or WhatsApp galleries, one professional link that wins clients.

4

Grow through community

Shyne supports the full creative journey — community, curated opportunities, and tools to move from learning skills to earning from them.

"The idea of having a portfolio sounds amazing because I'd like my work arranged and easily accessible whenever clients ask for past works."

Beta tester response — active working creative

"To create a portfolio that shows my craft, skills, and proven works executed for clients."

Beta tester response — designer

8 Creative disciplines represented in beta: designers, photographers, fashion creatives, videographers, writers, developers, makeup artists, bead artists
0 Negative feedback on product direction in second beta round. Zero.

Why Shyne and not a generic portfolio tool?

Behance, Squarespace, and Wix were built for Western markets. They assume broadband connections, credit cards, desktop computers, and fluency with Western design conventions. None of those assumptions hold in Lagos, Ilorin, or Accra. Shyne is built from the ground up for the African creative context — mobile first, guided, fast, community-backed, and priced for the market.

Why Now

The Moment Is Right Now

Africa's creative talent is rising fast. The tools to support them have not caught up yet. That is the gap Shyne fills — and the window is open.

$5.1B

Africa creator economy in 2025

Growing to $29.84 billion by 2032 at a 28.7% compound annual growth rate. This is not a fringe trend — it is a continental economic shift.

60%

Of Africa's population is under 25

The continent has the world's youngest and fastest-growing workforce. The median age is 19. This generation is creative, mobile-first, and looking for ways to turn talent into income.

$50B

Projected creative industry value by 2030

Africa's creative sector could generate over $50 billion annually and create 20 million jobs by 2030. The infrastructure to support that scale does not exist yet.

What Beta Testing Confirmed

68% of active creatives had no professional portfolio. Not a bad one. No portfolio at all. The problem is exactly what we thought it was.

Zero negative feedback on product direction in the second beta round. After redirecting based on first-round learnings, we got it right.

8 different creative disciplines applying organically, including a new audience we had not targeted — developers and tech creatives who see the same portfolio problem.

60 survey responses collected from target users before building, confirming both the problem and the appetite for the solution.

What Users Actually Said

The Team

The Right People for This Problem

Every member of this team is embedded in the same ecosystem they are building for. We did not study this problem — we lived it. We have also been stress-tested: selected from 20,000 applicants, survived a 0.3% filter, built through 120+ days of intensive accountability, and launched a live product. We have not broken. We have gotten sharper.

Co-Founder and CEO

Godwin Okechukwu

Why him

Built Shyne from idea to live product through firsthand experience of the problem. Led teams of 20+ people and shipped real products. Drives partnerships, product direction, and daily execution. Deep problem understanding combined with a proven ability to build and lead under pressure.

Managed the full UNDP and AIC accelerator journey. Conceived and executed the pivot from original platform to Portfolio Maker based on direct user learning.

Co-Founder and COO

Muhammed Abdulquadri

Why him

Structured internal operations and coordinated the MVP launch end to end. Grew the early community from zero to 100+ members. Turns ideas into structured, repeatable execution systems. When Godwin is building the vision, Javed is making sure things actually happen.

Led 0 to 100+ community growth. Manages operations, partner coordination, and internal systems that keep the team executing at pace.

Chief Technology Officer

Dorcas Wemimo Otubusin

Why her

Built and maintains the live Shyne platform. Has shipped multiple real-world products before joining Shyne. Owns product stability, iteration speed, and technical architecture. Can build fast, absorb feedback, and ship improvements continuously without breaking what works.

672 hours to ship v1. 336 hours to build the Portfolio Maker. Zero critical bugs holding the product back. The platform is live and working now.

Social Media and Growth

Badmus Khodijah

Why her

Drove approximately 100 organic waitlist signups before the product launched. Manages content, outreach, and user acquisition. Reached 6,915 people on Instagram in the first 2 months with zero paid spend. Understands how to turn creative community attention into real users — not just followers.

230+ Instagram followers and 40+ LinkedIn connections built entirely organically. Converting visibility into actual product signups from day one.

Community Manager

Sultanat Bashir

Why her

Built Shyne's community from zero to 120+ members with approximately 60% engagement rate. Organised events with 100+ registrations. Runs 2 events per week driving ongoing growth. Turns new users into retained, active community members — which is the difference between a product people sign up for and a product people come back to.

The community is Shyne's distribution advantage. Without Sultanat building it from scratch, the 150+ members, 100+ launch attendees, and 2 events per week do not exist.

What We Have Already Built Without Funding

Selected from 20,000+ applicants for the UNDP YAI accelerator — a 0.3% final selection rate after a 4,000+ hour evaluation process

Completed 288+ hours of accelerator training across 120+ days. UNDP invested approximately $5,440 directly into Shyne's development

Built a live platform in 672 hours of engineering work. Portfolio Maker first draft in 336 hours. Product is live now at portfolio.shyne.africa

Grew a 150+ member community from zero, with 60% engagement and 2 events running weekly

Attracted 100+ attendees to our launch event and reached 6,915 people organically on Instagram in 2 months

Selected for AIC Cohort 6 Builder Track — 1 of 1,118 founders from 31,500 application views and 12,101 started submissions

Beta tested with 25 creatives across 8 disciplines, confirmed 68% of active creatives have no professional portfolio, and received zero negative direction feedback in round 2

With $25,000, Shyne proves the full model. Without it, Shyne grows — just slower. We understand the problem. We have started solving it. We know exactly what we need to scale it.
